Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Vision Specialists of Papillion a proud provider of vision care products and services in Papillion.

Dr. Kyle Cheatham, FAAO, Dip Abo

Dr. Cheatham is a graduate of Indiana University School of Optometry. In 2005 he completed one of the top residencies in the country at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, where he received specialized training for ocular disease disorders and low vision rehabilitation. He cared for patients with a variety of severe eye problems, including many Veterans who were legally blind from glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetes.

Dr. Cheatham’s passion is education. He is the lead author of a textbook that is used in the majority of optometry schools in the country. He also enjoys lecturing about Low Vision and eye disease. Last year alone, Dr. Cheatham was invited to lecture at 19 of the 20 optometry schools across the country. In addition, Dr. Cheatham is the president of KMK Educational Services, a company that helps prepare practicing optometrists and students for standardized examinations. He is on the board of directors for Fellowship of Christian Optometrists and has lead groups to the Dominican Republic and Honduras to provide vision care to the underserved.

Dr. Cheatham moved to the area with his wife Melissa, who was raised in the small town of Hebron, NE. They have two sons, Cole and Grayson, and a daughter, Ella. They both enjoy spending time with close friends and family, playing tennis, and being involved in their Bible study at church.

Dr. Dayna Hazlewood

Dr. Dayna Hazlewood received her undergraduate education from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor in Physiology and minor in Neuroscience. She earned her doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, where she focused on service by working as an ambassador for the university and volunteering in events such as the Special Olympics and eye care clinics to the local underserved community. Her training provided her with a broad range of experience as she interned with honors at a VA Medical Center, a surgical co-management site, a private practice and the United States Navy Medical Center.

Dr. Hazlewood is devoted to serving the needs of adults and their children with a special interest in binocular vision, dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, contact lenses, diabetes exams, LASIK and cataract evaluations and emergency eye care. Dr. Hazlewood is one of the first in Nebraska to provide neurolens® technology to treat and manage headaches, tired eyes, neck/back stiffness, dizziness, and light sensitivity.

Although a Wyoming native, Dr. Hazlewood has chosen Nebraska to be her home. She is actively involved in the Papillion Area Lion’s Club and Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce, with the goal of promoting the growth and health of the community she serves. In addition, Dr. Hazlewood is a member of the American Optometric Association, Nebraska Optometric Association and College of Vision and Development. She lives with her fiancĂ© Justin and their energetic cattle dog, Freckles. Dr. Hazlewood enjoys many of the local parks, spending time with family and friends, snowboarding, hiking, live music, and football.
